“To avoid all evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one's mind — this is the teaching of the Buddhas.” Dhp 183

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, NBM USA provides opportunities for individuals of all ages to connect and progress in the path to Nibbana as shown by the Buddha’s teachings.

Mindfulness, more commonly referred to as Insight meditation, is the foundation of the practice. Being mindful is to be in the present moment, the here and now. It’s to be developed gradually, incorporating it into one’s daily routine, whether it’s brushing one’s teeth or washing dishes. As the practice matures, mindfulness will expand into other aspects of daily life.

Slowly

Establishing mindfulness is a gradual process and requires consistency in one’s practice. The goal is to observe with bare attention one’s own movements, postures, and mind throughout the day. To do this effectively, a yogi will need to slow down, be deliberate in their actions.

Mindfully

When a yogi is slow and deliberate with their movements and postures, the mind is given space to settle down allowing the awareness to sharpen, enhancing its ability to see the present moment more clearly with minimal distraction.

Silently

The mind has the nature to jump from one sense to another and one thought to another. This is referred to as the monkey mind. Oftentimes, sounds create distractions, disrupting one’s awareness like ripples in a pond disturbing the stillness. In order to break this habit, the yogi must be silent in their actions. This is quite easily achieved by slowing down one’s movements. Silence also is very powerful in a retreat setting, showing respect to other yogis that are also trying to cultivate mindfulness.
